Learn English through my 50 hrs. & 20 hrs. Modules:
With the objective of making a student industry ready, I
have designed two 50 hrs. & one 20 hrs. Modules. These English
Communication Modules will prepare students to face any Job Interview or and
also do well in Group Discussions, which is an essential part of the recruitment process for any top-level organization. These Modules will even help
a student to crack and score well in the English Proficiency Tests like –
AMCAT, SAT, TOEFL, etc. and will positively enhance a student’s employability
manifold.
OBJECTIVES:
The objectives for the Foundation, Advanced, and Finishing
Modules are as follows:
1. To Teach
Working English to Learners and to enable the students of Engineering and other
Professional Courses to develop their basic communication skills in English
Language.
2. To emphasize especially the development of speaking skills amongst learners of Engineering and Technology and other Professional Courses.
3. To ensure that learners use the electronic media such as the internet and supplement the Learning materials used in the classroom.
4. To inculcate the habit of reading and writing leading to effective and efficient Communication.
5. To make learners acquire listening and speaking skills in both formal and informal contexts.
6. To help them develop their reading skills by familiarizing them with different types of Reading strategies.
7. To equip them with writing skills needed for academic as well as placement contexts, viz., e-mail writing, etc.
8. To make them acquire language skills at their own pace by using audio-visual media and Language lab components.
The details of the Foundation, Advanced, and Finishing
Modules are as follows:
1. Foundation English Communication Module - 50 Hrs. This
module is meant for students of the first year, who’ve had their schooling mostly in
their mother tongue or in Hindi medium and have little or no exposure to the English
language for all practical purposes. This module will develop a student’s
Elementary Verbal Communication Skills and his basic understanding of the
English Language.
2. Advanced English Communication Module - 50 Hrs. This
module is meant for higher-semester students of the 2nd or 3rd year who have
already undergone training under the Foundation Module. Through this module the
Student’s English Communication Skills will be sharpened and will be enhanced
further.
3. Finishing English Communication Module - 20 Hrs. This is
more or less a crash course for final year students who have already been
trained under the previous two modules. At the end of this module, the students
will be ready for Placement Drives and will be able to do well in Group Discussion
Rounds, Interviews and also in any English Language Proficiency Test like –
TOEFL, AMCAT, SAT, etc.
KEY AREAS COVERED:
The Foundation, Advanced, and Finishing Modules cover the
following key areas of English Learning:
1. Vocabulary Building: Learning 10 words daily
with their Synonyms & Antonyms and forming Sentences with those words. The target of building a vocabulary base of 800 words.
2.
Listening Skills: Aim is to improve listening
comprehension of the English Language, How to listen effectively for better
understanding.
3. Reading Skills: Reading Newspaper and discussing
News Headlines, 10 hrs. (F) Applying Reading Techniques, Reading better and
faster.
4.
Speaking Drills: JAM, GDs, Mock, Presentations,
Public Speaking, Interviews & Extempore Sessions.
5. Writing Skills: Learning paragraph writing, covering
letter, how to prepare a single-page resume including written assessments.
TEACHING MODE:
Lecture Delivery Mode for the Foundation, Advanced and Finishing Modules are as follows:
Online Classes, BlackBoard Lectures & Audio-Visual - PPT Mode. Discussion with students & Audio Visual Sessions. Activities conducted individually and in groups like GDs, etc. Discussions, JAM sessions, Oral sessions, Developing Reading skills (Listening and viewing using language lab wherever necessary/possible) Activities like self-introduction, Short presentations Assignments, with follow-up activities like discussion, Writing exercises, etc.
Oral, Written and Drill Assessments - All the four skills (LSRW) are to be through assessments. Comprehensive pen and paper tests and the other oral tests are a combination of different modes of an assessment like: Assignment Reviews CV & Application writing Tests. Speaking assessment: Individual speaking activities, Interview, Group discussions, JAM, Extempore Reading assessment: Reading passages with comprehension questions graded from simple to complex, from direct to inferential Writing assessment: Writing paragraphs, essays, etc. Listening/Viewing assessment: Lectures, dialogues, video clippings with questions on verbal as well as audio/visual content.
DESIRED OUTCOMES:
Learners should be able to:
1.Speak
clearly, confidently, comprehensibly, and communicate with one or many
listeners using appropriate communicative strategies.
2.Write cohesively and coherently and flawlessly avoiding grammatical errors, using a wide vocabulary range, organizing their ideas logically on a topic read different genres of texts adopting various reading strategies.
3.Listen/view
and comprehend different spoken discourses/excerpts in different accents.
4. Speak convincingly, express their opinions clearly, initiate a discussion, negotiate and argue using appropriate communicative strategies.
5. Write effectively and persuasively and produce different types of writing such as narration.
6. Description, exposition, and argument as well as creative, critical, analytical, and evaluative writing.
7. Read
different genres of texts, infer implied meanings and critically analyze and
evaluate them for ideas as well as for the method of presentation.
8. Listen/view and comprehend different spoken
excerpts critically and infer unspoken and implied meanings.
